Greyton MTB Juniors is an affiliate group to the Greyton Mountain Bike club and has been in existence for approximately 10 years. We work weekly with both boys and girls and currently have about 75 youngsters on the programme. They are split into Tuesday rides for the girls and Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for the boys. Approximately 90 mins of raw energy fun in the most spectacular surroundings is often the highlight of the week for many of these youngsters. This is followed by juice and a sarmie, before bikes are washed down, packed away, ready for the next group. “Safety first”, ensures that everybody is fitted with a helmet before each ride, and thanks to donations from fellow cyclists, we have been able to gift each child a cycling top, which we try to replace as they outgrow them.
Ideally, we would love each child to own their own helmet and have enough bikes available for all children to ride together. Sadly, the wear and tear on these, often old and much-repaired bicycles, drains a lot of our limited resources, most of which are raised by the annual Canola Roller event. However, our enthusiasm never wanes, just seeing the delight that is created by taking a group of children out and about around our beautiful village, helping create healthy minds and healthy bodies.
If you are keen to join up with one of our Tuesday or Thursday rides, please drop us a message; we’d love to have you along, even if you are visiting or just passing through!
